On the one hand, the peninsula was as though the bridge connecting different florae of the Mediterranean, Asia Minor, caucasus, East European plain. Thanks to it Crimea, especially its mountain part, amazes with riches of flora and a variety of vegetative communities. Therefore it is absolutely close to each other grow a pine ordinary and evergreen strawberry, ferns and astragal, a yew berry and a birch повислая.

On the other hand, here in hard-to-reach spots of mountains it is possible to observe the vegetative cover which for a long time has disappeared on Pyrenean, Apenninsky and Balkan peninsulas where within millenia the vegetation was exposed to active influence from the person. In mountain to Crimea it has rather well remained thanks to not so intensive development of the nature of peninsula in the past.

In the recent geological past continental communications of peninsula interrupted, and it became island. Isolation of the Crimean flora and fauna remains and now: Crimea continues to be island in the biological relation as the salted coast of Sivash represents an insuperable barrier to the majority of kinds not only plants, but also animals. Here again there was an independent process of speciation, were formed эндемичные kinds.

In total in Crimea is nearby 280 эндемичных kinds (10 % of all flora). Among them: ясколка Bibershtejna (it is more known as «the Crimean edelweiss», widespread on yayl); a maple of Stevena; a cyclamen of Kuznetsova; a hawthorn Pojarkovoj (meets only on Karadage); some kinds of thymes (чабрецов); a snowdrop folded.
Now the natural flora of Crimea totals 2775 kinds of wild-growing plants. And if to them to add cultivated plants the figure will increase to 3500 kinds. It about 60 % of flora of Ukraine! Their basic quantity is concentrated in a mountain part – really a botanical museum!
